12/10/2017
The snow yesterday was beautiful. Not enough snow fell to require shoveling, and that's a good thing. So today, the bushes and trees look like they have been covered in icing, really beautiful.
Jeff and I stayed in for most of yesterday, but today there are things to be done. Laundry for one - blah. And, I guess I'll clear the kitchen table and begin wrapping presents. I think the reason I don't like to wrap is because I'm absolutely no good at it. They invented packing tape for a reason - to hold boxes shut, requiring no wrapping at all! That sounds lazy I know, but just stating the facts. After watching Stacey wrap a few presents, I was in absolute awe of how beautiful the presents looked. My "office" is currently overrun by boxes, those little puffy pillows that come in most Amazon packages, as well as padded envelopes, oh, and last but certainly not least, presents. Once I find the right box or package for each gift, and the wrapping is done, the OCD side of me will feel much better.
This week, I'm sliding down toward my birthday. Sixty-eight! Where have the years gone? Here's what I know for sure - I am no longer "carded" when I go to the movies and ask for the senior discount. My hair is mostly only gray in the front. There maybe gray hair on the back of my head, but I can't see back there, so that doesn't count!
I think Jeff is going to make spaghetti for dinner tonight. I'm grateful that he has taken over this chore/job, or whatever you want to call it. My ability to stand and/or walk is measured in mere minutes, before I have to sit down. And, you're not very productive if you have to continue to rest.
Jeff and I watched "The Dog Whisperer" this morning. We are learning so much from these television shows, and are gathering pointers on better ways to get the girls to do what we want them to do. We're making some progress, the girls are no longer chewing on sofas and chairs. When it comes to sell or give away said pieces of furniture, they'll have to be marked as "slightly damaged"! I don't feel comfortable allowing Bella to have access to rooms, without supervision. She is dynamite quick and before you can turn around, she's heading to the backyard with one "treasure" or another.
Yesterday, I went to my closet, and loaded up a big box of spring and summer shoes - flip flops and sandals. When Benjamin visits next, I'll ask him to organize the shoes by pairs that are left. In the spare room, I had at one time or another, cleaned out a folder/file and threw those papers on the floor. And there they sat. I have sense gone in, gathered up all the papers and shredded them. Benjamin has a number of toys on the floor in that bedroom, and I'm going to ask him to pick them up and put them in his toy box. You know that if you almost never go into a spare room, it can quickly become a dumping ground of everything that you don't want to deal with right now! And, I'm guilty as charged. But, when those rooms become a trip hazard for me, I know it's past time to get stuff off of the floor.
Jeff is making his weekly run to Costco and WalMart. Yours truly is staying home. I don't want to walk in wet leaves, because they are slippery.
The washing machine awaits.

It's Snowing!
12/9/2017
The snow that is falling is light and only covering barely the grass. Streets and driveways are clear, and there's no need for shoveling. But, on the other hand, just this little amount of snow will be a wake-up call to people to buy or find in their basements, shovels. We already have snow shovels, but I think that Jeff is going to buy a new one. I said I think, so don't quote me on that!
The good news about any kind of weather, is that I know if the girls have gone outdoors, because their paws are wet. Wet paws is a good thing. Today, I'm taking on the much dreaded task of wrapping presents. I will try to make a serious effort to wrap packages that don't need packing tape to hold the paper together! Although, packing tape is handy if I'm just sealing up a box that isn't going to be wrapped.
I saw the orthopedic spine surgeon yesterday. He spent a lot of time with me (shocker) and explained my options. Apparently, my case is complicated - ya think? After the first of the year, I'm signing up for back surgery, which may or may not have an impact on my right foot. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. My last spinal fusion surgery was in 1999, and now I'm nearly 20 years older. The recovery last time was long and slow, and I'm expecting the recovery this time to be much longer and slower. At least I'm not working so there isn't the push to get back to work quickly.
I think, notice I said think, that Jeff might make chicken soup today. Jeff does a wonderful job of making soups and stews. I, on the other hand, don't cut the veggies up to bite size. Actually, I rather hate cutting up veggies, and I'm always in a hurry to get the stew/soup cooking. Once the cooking starts, I can retire to my chair, feeling very proud of myself.
The Christmas Day menu at Scott's house is done. I'm bringing the hash brown casserole that everybody likes along with Pretzel Salad. I am so excited about spending the day with everyone. It will be so much fun.
This Friday, we're celebrating my birthday. Stacey is doing a good job of coordinating where we're going, what time we're going, etc. Apparently, all I have to do is show up. How neat will that be? I'll be 68 on my birthday. And, I wonder where all the years have gone. Since this year has been filled with medical issues, I'm looking forward to 2018 - um - after the back surgery that is.
Enjoy your Saturday, whether it's sunny or wintry.

We Made It To Friday!
12/8/2017
Stacey and Benjamin came over yesterday to "play" with me. First stop, was the nail salon for much needed pedicures! Benjamin picked out a bright pink glittered nail polish for Stacey, which looked good on her. Me? I went with the palest of pinks available. I can't reach my toes, so at least when the polish starts to wear off, it won't be as noticeable. Benjamin was very patient playing on his laptop, while Stacey and I were being pampered.
Once we got home, Stacey started wrapping Christmas presents for me. She does such a beautiful job with the wrapping, ribbons and bows. I feel almost embarrassed that Stacey's presents will be wrapped by me, and truthfully do a terrible job! I always enjoy my time with Stacey and Benjamin, and going on record, will tell you that she's a wonderful daughter-in-law. 💗
Today, I'm off to see the back surgeon again. The injections that he wanted me to have, did, well in a word - nothing. I think I'm long overdue for a solution to my problem, so that I can get my life, such as it was, back. Hearing about some sort of plan to help me, would make a wonderful gift.
That's all I've got to say today. Sorry that this is short, but perhaps I'll be more chatty tomorrow.

Pampering Coming Up!
12/7/2017
Stacey and Benjamin are coming to visit with me today. One thing that I need help with is the organizing of my shoes. As far as I can see, summer is now officially over, and it's time to put away sandals and flip-flops. I have a large box that my summer shoes can go in, and then we can determine if I can actually put on a real pair of shoes. I'm able to get my right foot into a clog, but an actual shoe might prove unsuccessful.
This afternoon, we're heading out to the nail salon for a much needed pedicure and waxing. If I were a man, then my budding whiskers on my chin would be the start of a beard. But, as a woman, I find the "whiskers", to be super unflattering! Just saying. Since I can't reach my toes, at the moment, or perhaps forever, to have my toes tending to, is a real treat. I don't think most men can appreciate how good a pedicure feels.
Afterwards, a quick trip to CVS, so that I can buy a few special cards, for a few special people. Then I suppose we'll come back home. This morning, I'm switching out the unwrapped presents that I have for Scott, Wendy and Elly, and replace them with gifts for Andrew, Stacey and Benjamin. Stacey can help, actually do, the wrapping of those gifts. Unfortunately, for Stacey, she is going to have their presents wrapped by me, so they're probably not going to look so good. After a lifetime, at least it seems that way, and having only boys, I've never needed to master ribbons and bows. Guys, just don't care about all that.
Last night, Jeff made sweet 'n sour pork for dinner and it turned out amazing. He added rice, peppers, onions, pineapple and a few other ingredients and it turned out really well. Had a little heat, but Jeff and I like spicy food. The house was cleaned yesterday, but I told Ada not to clean my office or the living room, as both rooms have officially been declared as "Santa's Workshop", and their are boxes and padded envelopes everywhere.
I went into the basement yesterday, and used concrete cleaner on the floor. The cleaner really did make a difference on the spots that Daisy has created. Trouble was, I was tired after my first round of cleaning, and I didn't go back down after the floor had dried, to do round two of cleaning. Perhaps, I can tackle that project again today or tomorrow.
I was notified today that one of my packages coming by UPS, has been delayed. I think I heard why on the news last night, but my brain didn't retain what the problem was. I have bought an egg basket for Benjamin to use in the future. I also ordered a few fake eggs to put in the basket. Now, I'll have to wait a few days to receive the eggs.
I think that's all the news I have for today. It's a bit brisk here, but it's also December. I remember doing my Christmas shopping in California wearing flip-flops. It's definitely not flip-flop season back here now.

Hump Day
12/6/2017
Wednesday is recycling day here at the house. All the unneeded cardboard and plastic stuff get put out on the curb. And, believe me with my "Santa" orders, I'm generating a lot of cardboard! At the moment, I'm saving the cardboard until I have all the gifts in boxes. I don't want to need a box for a present, and I don't have one.
Went to see the knee doctor yesterday. He took fluid off my knee and gave me a shot of cortisone. The cortisone is supposed to work in a day or two. No improvement today, maybe tomorrow.
Stacey and Benjamin are coming to see me tomorrow. Stacey and I will enjoy our pedicures and perhaps do our nails as well. Benjamin, will be content as long as he has his tablet. Since Scott, Wendy and Elly came to the house on Saturday, I took all of their gifts and put them on the dining room table and covered them with a tablecloth. Today, I'm putting Scott et al's presents on the sofa, and putting Andrew et al's presents on the table covered with the tablecloth.
After Stacey and I are "beautiful" once again - who doesn't love a pedicure, she's coming to the house and will beautifully wrap presents, and even adorn the packages with ribbon! I think for the men in my life, we can forego the ribbon. When my mother-in-law was alive, she saved all the ribbons and bows from opened presents, to use the next year, after she ironed said ribbons. Will I be doing that? Hmm, let me think, ah - no.
My cleaning lady comes this afternoon. I'm going to tell her not to clean the office, because it's cluttered with empty boxes and padded envelopes, Christmas cards and items that need shredding. I think I'll give her a pass on the living room as well. Nobody, but yours truly, has gone into the living room, since last Wednesday. I only went into the living room, to put presents in a chair. Any dust in there can certainly wait until next week, which by that time, all the presents will have been wrapped.
Since I slipped off of a small stool yesterday, and yes hit the floor with my right knee, I'm going to ask Benjamin to help me with my shoes in the closet. I want him to put all my sandals, flip flops, etc., in a box that we'll put in one of the spare bedrooms. This will be helpful to me. I'm also going to ask him to pick up all the toys in the spare room, and put them in the toy bin.
After all of that is done, it will be time for Stacey, Benjamin and myself to sit down and enjoy each other's company. I have some cherry pastries that will be delicious with coffee or milk.
My birthday is next week, if you count the 17th, which is a Sunday. Stacey is planning my birthday, not Christmas, dinner. She's making the reservations and picking a time for dinner. I told Stacey that if I get a present from anybody, I would like it wrapped in birthday paper. That sounds childish I know, but just because my birthday is close to Christmas, doesn't mean that I have to have a birthday present wrapped in Christmas paper.
Okay, time for me to get busy - or get a little busy. Enjoy your day.

Tuesday - Boring!
12/5/2017
What can you say about a Tuesday? Not much, unless having the garbage picked up is a source of excitement for you. I think I have all my Christmas shopping done, but still waiting for a package or two to show up. Started on my Christmas cards yesterday, so that job is nearly done also.
December seems to be my "funk" month. I don't know what the reason is. Can't exactly put my finger on any one thing. Stacey and Benjamin are coming to visit on Thursday. Stacey will help wrap (um, actually do the wrapping) some of the presents. Stacey has also taken over my birthday dinner on the 15th. Now that my office and the living room look like Santa's workshop, I want to give everybody their gifts - NOW. I get so excited about hunting down the right present, or what I believe is the right present, that actually having to wrap is just so boring. Sealing those most dreaded shirt boxes or puffy mailing bags is pretty easy if you use packing tape to keep things closed. Just saying.
On Thursday, Stacey and I are going to treat ourselves to an early birthday/Christmas present. We're going to get pedicures and for me waxing the "whiskers" off of my face. Nails might be an option, but I'm more excited about the pedicure. I don't think men appreciate how good a pedicure feels, not to mention how good your feet look!
First doctor's appointment today. I'm seeing the knee ortho doc. and then on Friday, I'm seeing the back ortho doc. Handy that they're in the same practice. My fingers are crossed that between the two of them, a solution to my problem(s) can be found.
I'm going to keep this short. I need to go and get dressed and be ready for Metro Access to pick me up. I'll put a crossword puzzle book in my walker basket, so that I'll have something to do while I wait for my actual appointment time.
More tomorrow.

Monday, Monday
12/4/2017
What can I say about a Monday? Um, most of you are back at work, and already looking forward to Friday. I know when I was working, I knew that I had to get through Monday, and then it felt like it was downhill to Friday. It's possible that I'm the only person that felt like that.
Yesterday, Jeff was again a mega star in terms of doing this for me. I'm very grateful for his help, even though I don't always seem to at the time. My body isn't working very well, and this makes me crabby. I can no longer blame my crabbiness on menopause, because that ship sailed a long time ago. I'm pretty sure that I'm just so frustrated that I've been dealing with right leg/foot issues since February. You know what I really want for Christmas? I want a doctor who feels that he can help me by taking care of whatever is wrong with my back, etc. The Hope diamond would also be nice, if that's not asking for too much. 😊
My "office" looks like Santa's workshop at the moment. Because I don't know which padded envelopes and/or boxes I'm going to use for wrapping presents, I'm saving them all. Once everything is wrapped, then I can start throwing out boxes. At this point, I don't know if I need to keep the little boxes or more of the bigger ones. When the boys see the dreaded "shirt boxes" come out with their names on them, I know this does not make them happy. But, as adults, they're a bit difficult to buy for. Ya think? And, Jeff is and always been super duper hard to buy for. Unlike me, he doesn't want more or less useless presents. When buying for him, I try to keep that in mind. Me? I love presents and like everything I get. The only time that I really didn't like a Christmas present, was when Jeff's Mother, who was into Shackley (however you spell it), gave me toilet bowl cleaner! I know that she thought this cleaner ws the best thing since sliced bread. Unfortunately, I didn't see it like that. I saw it as a silent comment on my housecleaning. Um, she never gave me a Schacley product again. As a mother-in-law, at this time of the year, I always ask for a list, which gives me a starting point. From there, I've known to go rogue when it comes to presents. And, since I love the presents I've bought for everyone, I want to give them all today.
I know I shouldn't buy things for myself, but I can't help it. I get on Amazon and intend to look for "x", but in the meantime, "y" has caught my eye! What else can I say? I did give Wendy and Stacey a list of sorts, practical and useful things. Jeff has renewed my subscription to People, which is a magazine that I love. And, I now have someone come in once a week to clean the house. Super thank you to Jeff! What I really want is to have my life back again. I want to be able to drive my car, walk pain free, and not have to use my walker and/or rollator to get around. Everything started going south in February, and now it's December! (Urrrr).
Have a good day.

I want to be able to drive my car, walk pain free, and not have to use my walker and/or rollator to get around. Everything started going south in February, and now it's December! (Urrrr).
Have a good day.
