Searching for Gold and Treasure!

1/11/2020

Jeff and I are really entertained with the shows where the "stars" are either looking for gold and/or buried treasure. With the exception of the show "Gold Rush", where one miner, in particular, seems to always get a large output of the gold stuff, others don't.

The price of gold today is $1,562.69. Parker, a fairly young miner has been very successful. His goal this year is for 6,000 ounces. If he reaches his goal, he will earn (and I'm horrible at math), somewhere around $94,121.40. I consider that to be a pretty good payday. Obviously, he has to pay his workers and maintain the machinery - but still. If you search for him, his personal life seems to be pretty dull. When I actually think about it, our life is pretty dull also! Just stating the facts.

On the show "Curse of Oak Island", though Jeff and I both know that it's scripted, we watch each episode silently cheering the team on. I think Jeff and I would probably have a heart attack, if treasures were found on Oak Island, or Gold Rush. We know in our hearts that we're never going to search for treasures. Why do we know this? Because even with scratch off tickets, we only win in numbers lower than $5.00. Hardly pays for the ticket. But hope springs eternal.

So, on Friday nights, you can find both of us watching with interest. If there was a big win or lots of buried treasure found, I think it would give Jeff and I a heart attack!

Good luck to all the seekers of treasure out there. Fear not, the coach potatoes are rooting for you! Here's a picture of a "tiny" nugget.

Early Today!!

1/10/2020

Please note - this blog is being written well before lunch time. I'm so very proud of myself.

Last week, when I started to go into the garage, this little "squeaky" mouse was hightailing it under my car. Many years ago, I thought I had a lifetime agreement with the "head mouse". The deal was that the mice could have the garage and eat stuff. Generally, there is some spilled kibble on the ground. And, how much food does a mice have to eat to stay alive? Apparently, very little, only 4-5 grams a day.

We've tried mouse traps, which work some of the time. I always wonder how the mouse gets the cheese set on the trap, without tripping the "thingy" (whatever it's called). I could but never would catch them live and put them back out in the street, so to speak. If, I did that, they would surely end up back in my house. And, I don't like that.

My solution: simple really - get a cat. I don't want a kitten, I want an adult cat, who hopefully has some mouse catching skills. Before getting a cat, I'm going to clear the floor of the pantry. Yes, that pantry, where you can't actually see the floor! Yikes I know.

Will the dogs and a cat get along. Eventually. Years ago, we brought home a new dog, and there was a lot of growling and egos being tossed around. Solution? We put both dogs in the laundry room to work things out. It didn't take long, before we took them out of the laundry room, and they became best friends.

Of course, introducing a cat will be a tad will be a bit more challgening. The only good thing that a mouse does for me, is to nibble on a box of food. Once I see that little hole at the bottom of a package, I then toss out the entire box. I'm not taking chances here. And, purging is theraputic, at least for me. I'm pretty sure that Jeff doesn't feel the same way.

Just as Bella is a service dog for me, this cat will be a "working" cat! You know that everybody has to pull their own weight.

When I look at the cats at the Humane Society, some of them have been there since early 2019, and I feel sorry for those cats. Are these cats too old? Too ugly? Who knows.

I will keep you posted as the cat selection progresses.

Yesterday - Apologies

1/9/2019

Apologies for yesterday. I had an early doctor's appointment, which unfortunately, when you're going to Hopkins, you're in for a lengthy stay. And, yesterday was no different. Through it all, though, Bella was perfect. She is a delight to take out.

It was very cold yesterday, and doesn't seem that today is much warmer. But, it is winter after all. I think Jeff and I would both like to see some significant snowfall so that the girls could go outside and romp around. Also, when it snows, it's pretty nice to come in from the cold and park yourself by the fire.

There is so much news going on now, that I absolutely read the paper - every page. Fires in Australia, shootings, climate changes, impeachment, and let's not forget the "royal family". Prince Harry et al, have shaken up the royals by announcing that they will spend some of their time in America, as well as England. I'm pretty sure that news like this, must have had the Queen, as the British say, gobsmacked.  We'll have to see how that turns out! I, am also very aware that most people wouldn't give this big news any thought at all, but I've always been interested in their activities. Maybe, because there isn't much going on in my life!

Haven't had my training for sometime. I'm actually looking forward to my training tomorrow. Who would have thought that would be something I would say? Certainly, not yours truly.

I have one minute to make this a morning blog. So closing now.

Cheesy Television

1/7/2020

I started watching this morning, while eating breakfast, "The Bachelor". It is possibly harder to find something that tops this show in really bad television. And, yet I watch. It's sort of like when you see an automobile accident, while you know, you shouldn't, 99% of people, can't help but look. I guess that's a human thing. Perhaps, we're wired that way!

Okay, back to the show. The bachelor, like always, is a 10+ in the looks department. And, the women aren't too bad either. Last night was a 3 hour show, but I can't spend 3 hours in the middle of the day, um actually I can, but it wouldn't make good use of my time.

The women arrive, in long, sparkly dresses, that fit well. One woman arrived wearing wings (I kid you not). Because the bachelor is a pilot, the ladies brought all sorts of plane things. Toy planes, paper planes, and other things like that.

The part of the show that I watched this morning, already shows that the claws are out. Everybody wants face time with the bachelor. I guess I would too. He and one of the women are outside, having a few minutes for conversation, and well that other stuff too.

Within minutes of being one woman, another woman comes out, all but demanding her time. The women always apologize for the interruption. But, boy it's weak. If you have watched the previous shows, then you know that face time is important. Oh, and leaving an impression on the bachelor. A woman goes home in each episode. At the end of the day (show), there are generally only two women left standing. If you have come so far, and then to be left at the "altar" so to speak, would be heart breaking.

Something that Jeff noticed this morning, was the use of the word "like". He actually told me that I should keep count, and perhaps I will.

There is a weather predication, that we will (okay might) get rain and/or snow sometime today. Since we rescued the girls, we haven't had much in the way of snow. If it does snow today, it probably won't be much, but we'll take the girls out to experience that white snow, and yes, people, don't eat yellow snow!

Have a great day.

Golden Globes

1/6/2020

Last night for television, we pretty much had only two choices. Impeachment things and/or Golden Globes Ceremony. We opted for the latter.

Since Jeff and I haven't watched many of the movies or tv shows that were up for awards, I concentrated on the dresses. Boy, the first thing I observed were the dresses probably held together by chewing gum! I know women are now more comfortable showing a lot of cleavage. Notice I said more comfortable. What I saw last night, went well and beyond what I was taught about dressing. I was taught, and perhaps you were as well, was to look and dress like a lady all the time.

Apparently, women of today don't share my Mother's opinion. Personally, I didn't get my first pair of jeans until I entered high school. Now, of course, it seems like everybody is buying jeans with holes already in them. Oh, I'm a "bit" old fashioned, but it would possibly kill me, if I went and spent good money on jeans already looking worn out. Maybe, if I was younger and/or thinner, I might opt for this trend. Somehow, I don't think so. Buying jeans in that condition, could give Jeff a stroke. (Just kidding).

Some of the dresses last night, were downright ugly (my opinion only - no hate mail). You have to sit for a very long time, and obviously look glamorous always! There was some dresses that looked great. Others had  "bat wings" on their dresses. And others had wide dresses that probably didn't make sitting very comfortable.

Here's an example of what I believe (again, only my opinion)  were not red carpet worthy. What do you think about the "wings" on that yellow dress?

Missed Me?

1/5/2020

I have a good excuse for my absence. Through a multiple of errors, mostly mine, I think, my computer had to have an "overhaul". Happy to say that my new computer is back and ready to go to work. Trouble is, and you all know this by now, my "OCD" sets in. New things generally leave me anxious. Getting this new computer set to my old settings, is a challenge and one that I'm going to have to like. Jeff hates change when it comes to stuff like trying to rearrange kitchen drawers for example. I think, you could safely say - that we like things just the way they are. I guess you could call us old "fuddy duddys". Apologies, I don't know to spell either of those words. Again, they might not even be words.

Every now and then, we let the girls out for a "walk about". Normally, they run around the houses on our street, but not yesterday. Bella came home, but not Daisy. Jeff could hear her barking, but wasn't sure where the barking was coming from. He found Daisy in a neighbor's yard that had a wooden fence with wires between the posts. Problem was, Daisy was able to get into the yard, but not out. And, when Jeff did get home, she was a muddy mess.  Needless to say, she experienced her first bath. And, we had to close the doors to the bathroom, so if she managed to get out of the tub, she couldn't go anywhere. Jeff says that after a few minutes, Daisy settled down, got herself cleaned up, and was able to join the family in the den. I may have to cancel these walkabouts for the immediate future.

Another thing that needs attention, is cleaning the oven. After the oven gets "x" number of spills, then it becomes hard work to get it cleaned up. But, that is the challenge for today. Jeff used the oven a few days ago, and you could smell the burnt places. This is not a smell that you want, whenever you use the oven. Trust me.

I opened up the back door last week, and a tiny little gray thing with a long tail, was surprised, and almost flew to get under the car. This has been an on-going war for years. Perhaps, it's time to get a cat, and I don't want a kitten, I want a cat. I thought that the mice and I had an agreement - you stay in the garage - and I won't try to kill you. Apparently, one of us didn't get the renewal contract!

We watched the Patriots game yesterday, and we were both sad to see the Patriots lose. What will be Tom Brady's next move? Maybe, he'll retire - who knows.

Our refrigerator is looking pretty empty. I know that Jeff really doesn't like looking at the empty space. What I don't like, is the massive amounts of food in the pantry. Whenever, one of the family visits, they are immediately drawn to the pantry to seek out something to eat. This is always followed by "you have too much food in there". Trust me, I'm fully aware.

Happy today and next week.

Movie Time

1/3/2020

Again, I just typed in the year as "2019" again. My brain will soon get the year straight, or at least I hope so.

Stacey, Wendy and the little people, took me to the movies yesterday. Before the movie, we stopped at a restaurant (can't remember the name) for a quick bite. Before we left for the movie, I bought dessert for everybody, for consumption later.

We went to see "Jumanji" (I think it's spelled right. I only had water (which you have to pay for) and ice. Even though I'm not actually dieting as much now, as I did last year, I'm still very careful about what and how much I eat. I eat when I'm hungry - small portions, small plates and small spoons!

Several smaller clothes arrived yesterday. When I buy smaller sized clothes, I am taking a leap of faith. While I'm not fashion conscious, I do need pants that can't be pulled at the sides and pretty much come around to meet in the front!

After blogging this morning, I'm going to go upstairs, keep my fingers crossed, and hope that the new clothes fit, or at least a bit large. Enough so, that I have to send the clothes back for an even yet smaller size. Wouldn't that be great? I think so. Jeff's credit card - not so much!

While the temperature outside isn't particularly cold, but the gloomy weather, sure makes you want to stay indoors.
